How Can You Use OSCAR?

As an LSA user in OSCAR, you have access to a wide variety of system functions pertaining to applicants, recommenders, judges, staff attorney offices, and basic account administration. LSAs can perform various actions in OSCAR depending on their level of user rights, including the areas outlined below.

Manage Your Account

In OSCAR, LSAs maintain their law school profile and law school dean information visible to applicants, judges, and staff attorney offices. As an LSA, you can also create and manage additional accounts for users within your law school, as well as manage user rights, passwords, and account information.

Manage Your Account

Access Judge and Staff Attorney Office Information

LSAs have access to a directory in OSCAR containing judge and staff attorney lists, including all online available judicial clerkship and staff attorney office positions. You can search for judges, staff attorney offices, and available positions based on a variety of specific criteria, as well as save and share your searches with applicants. LSAs can also download files of judges and staff attorney office information.

Assist Applicants

LSAs are granted administrative functions to help students navigate the federal clerkship and staff attorney application process in OSCAR. As administrators, LSAs can upload application documents and submit applications on behalf of applicants, check the status of recommendation requests, and use the "log in as" feature to log in directly to an applicant's account. LSAs can also share saved searches for relevant positions with specific applicants and email applicants directly in OSCAR.

Assist Recommenders

Recommendation letters are required for most applications in OSCAR. The LSA's ability to navigate the recommendation process in OSCAR can help your students immensely. As an LSA, you can view the status of all recommendation requests, access account information for recommenders, upload recommendation letters on behalf of recommenders, and use the "log in as" feature to log in directly to a recommender's account.

Assist Your Recommenders

Additional Features

In addition to all the features outlined above, LSAs have access to other administrative functions that may be useful. Included in this is the ability to run predefined reports containing statistics on applicants, recommenders, and judges from the current hiring season. Other features include certifying your class rank system, sending emails directly within OSCAR, and using the "log in as" feature.
